Accomplished Alumni: Erin Owens, MS Library Science (2006)

Erin Owens is a Full Professor, with tenure, in the Newton Gresham Library at Sam Houston State University, where she has supported an array of public service roles since 2007. Having been promoted to Full Professor in 2020, she is the first librarian at her institution to reach this achievement.

As the Scholarly Communications Librarian, Erin supports student and faculty researchers throughout the stages of the scholarly communication cycle, including research data management planning through publication and beyond. She is also the Coordinator for Access and Interlibrary Services; in this role Erin directly supervises two staff managers and coordinates the work of eight full-time staff members and approximately 25 student workers in circulation, reserves, billing, stacks maintenance, copy services, and interlibrary loans.

Erin received her Masters of Science degree in Library Science from the University of North Texas in 2006. As a COI alumna, Erin has terrific memories of classes with Dr. Ana Cleveland and enjoyed her time researching at the Willis Library, where she “felt like a book dragon in a cave of treasure under the low library ceiling.”

Erin will be a guest of the CODE series on Thursday, March 2, 2023 at 10 a.m. We hope you can join us to learn from such an accomplished alumna.
