Dear College of Information Alumni,
The College of Information, your alma mater, is proud to be home to research that contributes to UNT’S Carnegie Tier One status. In each of our three departments, Information Science, Learning Technologies, and Linguistics, we continue to cultivate a culture of collaboration to meet the goals of our strategic plan which states better research and teaching will lead to faculty success and student success.
I want to share with you some of our accomplishments as a college:
The college is home to rigorous, engaging, and highly rated programs. Data Science, Computational Linguistics, Learning Technology, and Library Science remain our wide-reaching programs sparking the interest of many students. We provide students the opportunity to fulfill their aspirations.
Our college continues to invite field experts through the Discovery Series lectures. World-renowned experts present and lead discussion on topics of interest to our College. The schedule for these are included in our monthly newsletter and published on our website. Please join us!
We are taking student professional development to new levels with our student-focused Career Opportunities Directions and Exploration (C.O.D.E) program. It is not only a collaboration with the UNT Career Center but also an opportunity for student recruitment. The goal of the series is to connect both alumni and industry professionals with current students. Alums like Whitney Kilgore have come back to lead discussions on jobs and where a degree in Learning Technologies can take our students. We would be honored to have you present at C.O.D.E.- please consider it. Previous C.O.D.E events are archived on the COI website as well.
The College Leadership board comprises both alums and industry leaders, who all help direct our academic path. It’s an alignment that we believe will open doors to our students once they leave the University of North Texas.
As I continue to meet with our alums, I am hearing two things 1. You do want to stay in touch. 2. You want to hear from your favorite faculty members. I believe the best way to accomplish both goals is to sign up for our college newsletter. It is the best way to hear about the accolades of your favorite faculty members and research projects. I know from having served in academia for more than 25 years, sustained relationships with alumni are one of the best ways to ensure the success of our students.
