Celebrating Excellence: 2023 College of Information Alumni Awards

On November 10, 2023, UNT’s College of Information proudly recognized three outstanding alumni whose exceptional journeys and contributions have left an indelible mark on the fields of learning technologies, library science, and linguistics.

Dr. Alaina Doyle: A Trailblazer in Learning Technologies

Learning Technologies Ph.D.

With an illustrious career in learning and development and instructional design and a recent graduate of the Learning Technologies Ph.D. program, Dr. Alaina Doyle has shaped industry giants such as Citigroup and JPMorgan Chase. For the past 11 years, Alaina has contributed her expertise to Wells Fargo, where she currently serves as the Director of Learning and Development. Beyond her professional achievements, Alaina's commitment to the College of Information is evident in her role as a founding member of the Alumni Society and through her support for graduate students through scholarships and COI Leadership Board participation. Her continuous support has rightfully earned her the COI 2023 Outstanding Alumni award.

Roosevelt Weeks: Transforming Libraries, One Chapter at a Time

Master of Library Science

Roosevelt Weeks, a distinguished alumnus, started his academic journey at Texas Southern University, culminating in a Master of Library Science from COI in 2014. His contributions to library science have been nothing short of remarkable, with key roles at the City of Houston and his current position as the Director of Austin Public Libraries. As a Texas Library Association Librarian of the Year recipient, Roosevelt has not only made an impact locally but is also actively engaged with national library organizations. His commitment extends to supporting the College of Information, evident in his role in the Yvonne J. Chandler Endowed Scholarship and his invaluable service on the college's leadership board. Roosevelt Weeks' unwavering dedication to the community and library sciences has rightfully earned him the COI 2023 Outstanding Alumni award.

Dr. Lisa Jeon: A Linguistics Luminary

Master of Linguistics

Dr. Lisa Jeon, a distinguished linguist and language educator, has carved a unique path through academia. Starting with a Bachelor of Arts in English at UNT, she continued her educational journey at COI, earning a master's in Linguistics, followed by a Ph.D. from Rice University. Currently serving as the Director of Language Programs at LanGo Institute, Lisa not only teaches linguistics courses but also spearheads engaging summer camps that foster a love for language and culture. Lisa Jeon's unwavering support for the college and her significant contributions to linguistics and language education make her a deserving recipient of the COI 2023 Outstanding Alumni award.

The 2023 COI Outstanding Alumni award ceremony was a celebration of diverse achievements in learning technologies, library sciences, and linguistics. Alaina Doyle, Roosevelt Weeks, and Lisa Jeon stand as shining examples of the impact COI alumni are making in their respective fields.
