Stephanie Robinson
Major:
Ph.D. Learning Technologies

What is your current major, degree plan, and professional concentration (if any)?
I am currently completing the PhD program for Learning Technologies with a professional concentration on assistive technology, learner-centered technology integration, vocational rehabilitation, and artificial intelligence in education, private, and government sectors.

Why did you apply for this scholarship and what made you think you were a good match for it?
Yes, I applied for this scholarship and felt I would be a good representative for our department and the type of students our professors mold and build up over the course of our studies.

Can you explain how this scholarship will help you on your academic journey? In other words, how does it help you meet your goals?
It is always great to be recognized for the hard work you’ve put into any endeavor. This award certainly helped boost my morale and will help to cover the cost of the remaining courses on my degree plan. I am very grateful.

What are some highlights of your time in the program so far? Do you want to shout out to any specific courses or professors who have helped you along the way?
It is hard to select a specific course highlight because I have truly enjoyed them all! I would like to give a special thanks to my Major Professor Dr. Aleshia Hayes, my AGF Robert Wright,, and committee member Dr Regina Kaplan-Rakowski. They have true been an inspiration to me throughout this program and they represent the best in our field.

What are your career plans after graduation?
As an entrepreneur, I will incorporate my education by focusing on advocacy for equal education for all students, as well as contribute innovative technology into the industry to help enhance the way students and professionals learn.

Can you share any big successes (besides the scholarship) you’ve had or obstacles you’ve overcome?
Throughout the journey of completing my PhD, I have been faced with a downpour of personal challenges that almost caused me to remove myself from the program completely. Unfortunately, I lost my mother (who was incredibly proud and supportive). This loss had an incredible effect on my motivation to continue. However, what was so beautiful about this experience was seeing how my cohort surrounded me with love and true support to ensure I kept moving forward. I am forever grateful for them all.
