Shubham P.
Major:
M.S. Information Science with a concentration in Health Informatics

COI: What is your current major, degree plan, and professional concentration?
Shubham: I am majoring in Information Science with a concentration in Health Informatics. I am going to graduate in Spring 2023.

COI: Why did you apply for this scholarship and what made you think you were a good match for it?
Shubham: I have always been interested in organizing healthcare information and have discovered a passion for this subject. In order to manage and categorize health information resources in healthcare organizations, I wish to grasp the knowledge after graduation. Building on my knowledge and skills, I'm enthusiastic about developing and using classification systems for electronic health records (EHRs) and other health information systems. I believe this is the reason for my belief that I am a good candidate for this scholarship opportunity.

COI: What are some highlights of your time in the program so far? Do you want to shout out to any specific courses or professors who have helped you along the way?
Shubham: During my time in the program, I have been particularly fascinated by the in-depth knowledge gained in courses like "Health Sciences Information Management.” I am grateful for the invaluable guidance and support provided by Dr. Craig Drayden and Dr. Ana Cleveland, whose field expertise has enriched my learning experience. Thank you both for offering me the Graduate Teaching Assistant position.

COI: What are your career plans after graduation?
Shubham: Following graduation, I intend to use my health informatics knowledge and skills to impact the healthcare industry significantly. I aim to obtain a position as a health informatics specialist or data analyst in a healthcare organization where I can improve patient care, optimize operational workflows, and integrate cutting-edge technologies. In addition, I am enthusiastic to investigate research opportunities that contribute to the development of healthcare informatics, ultimately resulting in healthcare systems that are more efficient and patient-centered.

COI: Can you share any big successes you’ve had or obstacles you’ve overcome?
Shubham: As an international student, I have attained significant success through academic excellence, scholarship awards, and my current position as a graduate teaching assistant. However, I've also encountered obstacles such as cultural adaptation difficulties and navigating complex visa regulations, which required determination and courage. Ultimately, these experiences have contributed to my personal development and equipped me with the skills necessary to succeed in the modern world.
