COI: What is your current major, degree plan, and professional concentration?
Vidya: I am currently pursuing a master's degree in information science with a concentration in Health Informatics.
COI: Why did you apply for this scholarship and what made you think you were a good match for it?
Vidya: I applied for the Sarah Law Kennerly Endowed Scholarship because I strongly believe in the value of education and the opportunities it provides. As an ambitious and driven individual, I am committed to pursuing my academic and professional goals. However, financial constraints have posed challenges along the way. This scholarship presents an excellent opportunity for me to overcome those obstacles and continue my educational journey. Upon carefully reviewing the scholarship criteria, I realized that I am a good match for it based on my academic achievements, extracurricular involvement, and alignment with the scholarship's mission. Throughout my academic journey, I have consistently maintained a strong academic record, demonstrating my dedication and ability to excel in my studies. I am confident that with the scholarship's support, I will be able to continue my educational journey, expand my knowledge, and contribute positively to society in the future.
COI: What are some highlights of your time in the program so far? Do you want to shout out to any specific courses or professors who have helped you along the way?
Vidya: I have had several memorable highlights during my time in the program so far. One of the standout experiences has been my enrollment in the Health Science Information Management course, taught by Professor Angela Alvarado. This course has been instrumental in shaping my understanding of the intersection between health sciences and information management.
Professor Angela Alvarado's teaching style and expertise in the field have truly made a lasting impact on my learning journey. Her engaging lectures, real-world examples, and practical assignments have not only expanded my knowledge but also inspired me to explore the field of health informatics further. Professor Alvarado's dedication to our success and her willingness to provide guidance and support have been invaluable. Interacting with fellow students and engaging in group projects has allowed me to gain different perspectives and learn from my peers. The collective support and shared experiences have enriched my overall learning experience.
COI: What are your career plans after graduation?
Vidya: After graduation, my career plan is to pursue a path as a clinical data analyst. I am drawn to the field of healthcare data analysis due to my passion for both data-driven decision-making and the healthcare industry.
COI: Can you share any big successes you’ve had or obstacles you’ve overcome?
Vidya: I've had several significant successes and obstacles throughout my journey that have shaped my growth and development. One notable success that comes to mind is my experience working in a hospital during the Covid-19 pandemic and providing care to numerous patients. Despite the challenging circumstances and increased workload, being able to contribute to the healthcare team and directly impact the lives of patients was incredibly rewarding. It was fulfilling to play a role in helping individuals recover and providing support during such a critical time. Additionally, this experience allowed me to develop resilience, adaptability, and teamwork skills as we navigated the complexities of the pandemic together. Overcoming the obstacles presented by the pandemic required dedication, compassion, and the ability to quickly adapt to evolving circumstances. I'm proud of the work I've done in the hospital setting during the pandemic, and it has further solidified my passion for healthcare and serving others.
