Major:
M.S. Library Science with School Library Certification

COI: What is your current major, degree plan, and professional concentration?

Lucas: My major and degree plan is focused on Master of Science in Library Science with a School Librarian Certificate.

COI: Why did you apply for this scholarship and what made you think you were a good match for it?

Lucas: I applied for this scholarship and think it is a good match because this is my focus. I love UNT and how highly rated its College of Information, specifically its Library Science program is.

COI: What are some highlights of your time in the program so far? Do you want to shout out to any specific courses or professors who have helped you along the way?

Lucas: My highlights in the program have been learning of the continued importance and relevance of libraries. I have loved getting to envision myself in the role as a librarian with assignments. I want to shout out to Dr. Kuon and Dr. Schultz-Jones! They have challenged, helped, encouraged, and guided me so much in the courses. I’m immeasurably grateful to them!

COI: What are your career plans after graduation?

Lucas: I am very open to what my career plans are. I would love to be a school or public librarian. I am also interested in working with archives. So many possibilities!

COI: Can you share any big successes you’ve had or obstacles you’ve overcome?

Lucas: The obstacles I have had to deal with are being a full-time teacher and doing this program. It hasn’t been too much though. The university, professors, advisors have been great guides and accommodating. The program has challenged me, but it’s also improved my own teaching. I now look at different ways to encourage a love of reading.
