eligibility

Each department at UNT has specific requirements and expectations for assistantships. Assistantships typically require a commitment of 10 or 20 hours per week and are salaried positions.

The selection process is competitive, and applicants are expected to:

  • Maintain full-time enrollment and good academic standing.
  • Demonstrate responsibility, reliability, and the ability to work collaboratively.
  • Reside within Texas, as remote work is not available for students living outside the state.

Application Process

To apply, students should contact their respective department or academic graduate advisor for detailed information on available positions and application procedures.

Other campus jobs are hourly positions that require an application through Handshake.

Resources

The Tuition Benefit Program (TBP) is one of several programs UNT has developed to provide support for graduate students as they pursue their studies. TBP provides a tuition supplement for eligible recipients.  Because this award is tied to employment as a Graduate Assistant, hiring departments determine  which graduate assistants receive the tuition benefit and the award amount.

Please contact your hiring department for more details.
Many students who receive an assistantship and are classified as non-resident are eligible to have out-of-state tuition waived and will pay tuition at the in-state rate through an employment waiver.

This waiver is submitted each semester to the Toulouse Graduate School.

For comprehensive information on assistantship benefits, including health insurance eligibility, students are encouraged to consult the Assistantship Benefits page.
