The PERFECT Project provides a self-paced, fully online cybersecurity training program for high school STEM teachers (Grades 9–12). The goal is to train the teacher—so you can confidently teach cybersecurity fundamentals to your students.

This program is developed by university students and faculty from University of North Texas (UNT) and West Texas A&M University (WTAMU) and funded by the Office of Naval Research (ONR).

  • Location: Online via Canvas (self-paced learning)


What You'll Do

Here’s a breakdown of what’s expected from participants:

1. Complete the Full Online Training

  • Access the self-paced modules through Canvas

  • Topics include:

  1. PERFECT Introduction, Cyber Ethics, Privacy, Forensics and Investigation
  2. Cyber Threats Analysis: Concept of cyber data analysis using Weka or other easy tools
  3. Basic Hacking: What do hackers do through a wireless/mobile network?
  4. Cybersecurity through Game-Based Learning
  5. Securing the Network, Internet, the Web/Cloud and Email Accounts, Detection and Protection
  6. Social Media Security, and Educational Tools for Kids Learning Cybersecurity
  7. Blockchain, Encryption-Decryption, Authentication (Passwords, Multi-Factor, SSO)
  8. Metaverse and Cybersecurity
  9. Cybersecurity Framework
  10. Cybersecurity Education and Careers, including ONR

2. Submit Required Tasks

  • Short module quizzes or reflections
  • One sample lesson plan or activity outline
  • Pre- and post-training surveys (for research & improvement)

3. Implement What You Learn

  • After the course, you’ll be ready to introduce cybersecurity into your own classroom with a university-developed curriculum.


Compensation Eligibility

  • ✔ Be one of the first 15 teachers to complete all modules and required tasks
  • ✔ Submit all deliverables by August 31, 2025
  • ✔ Receive a $600 stipend

Please note: Compensation is limited to the first 15 qualified completers. Spots are limited!


Prerequisites to Join

Before registering, ensure you:

  • ✅ Your school has been approved for training  - Details in Schools webpage
  • ✅ Have reliable internet and a device (laptop/desktop recommended)
  • ✅ Can dedicate ~8–10 hours total to the training in August
  • ✅ Commit to completing all materials by the deadline
  • ✅ Are willing to implement at least one lesson with your students
