The directors of the Multiple Literacies Lab at the University of North Texas are seeking graduate and undergraduate students of all levels willing to grow their skill sets related to information science research. Our mission is to enable the acquisition of multiple literacy skills through research and evidence-based practice.
Our lab is not like a chemistry lab - it is a place for researchers to come together and explore ideas related to all kinds of literacies. With these ideas, we can plan research studies, enact programs that increase multiple literacy skills, and share our findings widely.
For Fall 2022, we will be meeting on Tuesdays from 4pm to 5pm. On alternating weeks, we will meet for whole group discussion. On the other weeks, we will have an open worktime via online video conferencing. Below are a few of the expectations:
- Students must commit a minimum of 5 hours per week for working on lab projects. This will include a weekly lab meeting, regular project meetings, occasional meetings with a lab director, reading articles, and completing research project tasks.
- Students may join the lab at any point, but they must commit to remain active for at least 8 weeks. This provides continuity for research projects and offers students a robust experience.
- Students will complete lab tasks on a voluntary basis as a learning experience. This is not a paid position.
- Students should respond to messages from lab directors and colleagues in a timely
manner.
- Communication will primarily take place in Microsoft Teams. Each project has its own channel within the MLL team. Please make sure to subscribe yourself to the channels for the projects you are working on.
If you are interested, please review the document that explains the basic expectations we have for student participants, as well as what you can expect from the lab directors. Then fill out the application form. We will respond to you within two weeks.
We look forward to working with you in the future!
