About
My name is Xiaoyu Zhang (also go by Monica). I am originally from Shenzhen, China. I have lived in Texas since 2011, first four years in Austin, and moved to DFW area in 2016. I am an information technology enthusiast who enjoys practical research and teaching. I am a teaching fellow and second-year doctoral student in the Department of Information Science. I have earned the Master's in Information Science from UNT in 2018, and a Bachelor's in Journalism from The University of Texas at Austin in 2013. Before I joined UNT, I worked as a Business Systems Analyst at Wells Fargo and Production Artist at Apple. My research interests are in the areas of data modeling, information retrieval, data visualization, big data analytics, and health informatics. Right now, I am working on research projects include mental health information-seeking behavior, information organization, information resources, content analysis, knowledge graph, and usability assessment. In my free time (if we have any as a doctoral student), I like traveling, I have been to Asia, Europe, South America, and over 30 states in the US. I also like cooking and watching Netflix when I am not traveling.
