Dr. Hawamdeh receives 2022 Salute to Faculty Excellence Award

UNT's Salute to Faculty Excellence event is hosted each spring by Faculty Success and the UNT Foundation. It is just one of the many ways UNT honors the dedicated faculty members whose innovative research, pedagogy, and service continue our university's tradition of prestige.

The 2022 Salute to Faculty Excellence Awards Celebration was held Tuesday, April 19, 2022 in the Murchison Performing Arts Center. 

Alumna Adela Justice, on the Legacy of Dr. Yvonne Chandler (1957-2020) and Future of the LIS Profession

When she started graduate school, Adela Justice, AHIP, was a reserved person, but Dr. Yvonne Chandler brought her out of her shell. Adela gigged as a violist with the Denton Community Orchestra while finishing her B.A. in music at UNT. But when a hand injury sidelined her music career, she had to find a plan B. “That’s when my mom sent me a newspaper article about the information superhighway,” she recalls.  So, Adela took a chance on information science at UNT. She applied for graduate work-study and received a teaching assistantship with Dr. Chandler.

kYmberly was selected to receive The National Trust for Historic Preservation Diversity Scholarship for PastForward 2021 Online, November 2nd-5th. She applied to the conference this year to be a part of the entire dynamic that will take place with regard to preservation. She is a PhD Student in Information Science, majoring in Interdisciplinary Studies at the University of North Texas.

College of Information Ph.D. candidate leads research team on tackling digital divide

Cary Jim and teammates win Open Data Challenge from Microsoft

It’s a win Cary Jim and her teammates hope to use to close a digital divide across the country. Jim, a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Information Science, partnered with a group of researchers at Purdue University, to win a global contest sponsored by Microsoft. Jim discovered the contest after reading about the digital challenges of online education during the Covid-19 pandemic.
