Kathryn (Kate) Hebert, MS Library Science, 2011

Kate is the perfect example of a teacher librarian. Librarians in an elementary school are by nature teachers, and in addition to being the head librarian, she is responsible for writing the library curriculum for all the students in the school and the district according to TEKS and aligned with Texas Library Standards. Currently, Kate works at Nelson Elementary, but before that she was a 3rd grade teacher and then librarian at Alvin Elementary school. Although she is a school librarian now, she has also worked at the Art Institute of Fort Worth and did her internship at the National Cowgirl Museum & Hall of Fame in Fort Worth in archiving, where she digitized scrapbooks. She eventually became the librarian at the Art Institute of Fort Worth. Of her time at UNT, she remembers Dr. Tricia Kuon as her most influential professor. To give back, Kate has signed up to mentor through the school librarian certification program and the Dr. Yvonne J. Chandler Mentoring Program.
