English Language Learning in Immersive Environments (ELLIE) is one-day symposium intended to bring researchers, developers, and educators in relevant disciplines together and discuss the elements of effective virtual environments for language teaching, especially for conversational English.

The purpose is to formulate the design of XR Experiences for Language Learning and build partnerships.  The audience included designers, developers, linguists, and other language learning experts. The morning session will be an introduction, 20-30 presentations from experts in the domains of VR development, game development, and learning. Dr. Aleshia Hayes' introduction will be an overview of existing language learning apps and immersive tools.

Interetested participants will provide 7 minute Pecha Kucha-style presentations. A break at lunch will be followed by the creation of breakouts for people to discuss future collaboration and identify grants that will work in their domain.

The 2021 ELLIE Conference is scheduled for a full day of discussions, presentations, and preliminary grant proposal planning on Friday April 23, 2021.
