COI Celebrates Nine Service Award Recipients

Last week, The University of North Texas held an awards ceremony to recognize milestone years of service for UNT faculty and staff. The College of Information celebrates the hard work of the following nine individuals:

25 Years

Dr. Shobhana Chelliah, Distinguished Research Professor, Linguistics.

Research interests include the documentation and description of the Tibeto-Burman languages of Northeast India; Methods of language documentation (focusing on Meiteiron, Lamkang, Boro, Dimasa, Kokborok), language archiving, community documentation and collections, language and health, and language endangerment and political instability.

15 Years

Dr. Sadaf Munshi, Professor, Linguistics

Research interests include Indo-Aryan languages (e.g. Hindi, Urdu, Kashmiri, and Romani or "Gypsy" language) and Burushaski in the areas of historical and comparative linguistics, language contact, language documentation, and grammatical analysis and theory.

Dr. Dorian Roehrs, Professor, Linguistics

Research interests include the morpho-syntax of the Germanic languages from both a synchronic and diachronic perspective, with a lot of work focused on the noun phrase in different varieties of German and Norwegian. 

Dr. Scott Warren, Professor, Learning Technologies

Research interests include studying the use of technologies such as digital learning environments, off-the-shelf and designed games and simulations, and instances where these intersect with more traditional, non-digital curricular materials such as textbooks, literature, and oral storytelling, and teacher preparation for the use of each.

10 Years

Rachel Hall, Assistant Director, Academic Advising

Rachel oversees the operations and staff of the advising office and advises students in the linguistics and learning technologies graduate programs.

Kasia Milewski, Proposal Manager, Office of the Dean

As Proposal Manager, Kasia assists faculty with finding external funding opportunities, meeting with faculty to discuss research goals, making connections with collaborators, and overseeing the proposal development process from the planning stages through the submission of external funding applications.

Nichole Tyler, Ph.D. Program Coordinator, Information Science

From prospective student to proud COI graduate, Nichole assists Information Science doctoral students in pursuing their educational goals.

5 Years

Dr. Kinshuk, College of Information Dean and Professor, Learning Technologies

Research interests include learning analytics, learning technologies, mobile, ubiquitous, location-aware learning systems, cognitive profiling, and interactive technologies.

Dr. Xian Zhang, Assistant Professor, Linguistics

Research interests include second language acquisition, language assessment, corpus linguistics, computer-assisted language learning, psycholinguistics, and neurolinguistics.
